Fabulous Fourth Grade~ Painted Ancient Greek Vases

BAILEY
I'm so proud of how these fourth graders handled this project. These are huge! These kiddos know I like to work big and this was the perfect ancient Greek project to do super size. They're about 2ft. tall!
GRACE
With this size, students sometimes have the tendency to just slap paint on any ol' place but they really planned out their design and were careful with their colors.
MACEY
HANNAH
JACK
We studied the shape of real ancient Greek vases and  the shape and placement of handles.

Ancient examples are earth toned, but I love how some incorporated brighter colors too.

Critique~ The Mona Lisa!

Every school year Kindergarten through Fifth gets to critique at least two artworks. They love the critique process!
1. We LOOK at the artwork
2. We THINK about our opinion of the artwork
3. We TALK about the artwork and share our opinion
4. We DRAW about the artwork

This time I chose The Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo daVinci almost 508 years ago!
The opinion shared by most was that they liked The Mona Lisa, although some did not like her hair, her clothing or the muted colors of the painting. Even though she is known for her smile, we decided it really was not that great of a smile and that we could think of a way to really make her smile!
So, where would YOU take the Mona Lisa to make her smile??
To McDonalds?

To the icecream shoppe?
How about to see a movie?
Or to the beaches of Hawaii?
I love this one, Griffin would like to take her on a date!
And maybe a make-over will do
There were so many great responses so we hung them in the hallway for everyone to see

Fiesty Fifth Graders~ Greek Vases

BLAKE
Wow. There's a lot to say about these fantastic vases my fifth graders worked on for quite a while. There were times I seriously didn't think we'd make it to the finish line, but we did and I'm super proud of them!
KENDRA
Some were a bit crooked after drying, but this resourceful fifth grader decided it looked more like a water pitcher so she ditched the second handle.
LEANNA
 I love it.

Some were worried about their vase being lopsided or lumpy and bumpy but I reminded them the vase was to be a couple thousand year old replica so it was all good!
LAURA
It was a mess let me tell ya. To paper mache and clean up in 50 minutes was a race....

..and when one class didn't finish and the room temp overnight caused several balloons to deflate many had to start over.
 But we did it!

Now Mrs. Cline is searching for even more paper mache ideas, so bring on the gloopy glop!!
