Fabulous Fourth Graders~ Humanimals!

Holy cow, were these a blast to make!

Fourth graders spent quite a bit of time searching through magazines for just the perfect eyes, nose, and mouth belonging to either a human or an animal!

Heads and necks were simple backgrounds such as landscapes or flowers. We tried to avoid words as much as possible.

Ears and appendages were so fun to search for. Many of the kids had so many ideas they cut out they were able to make two Humanimals!

This guy below, by far, was my absolute favorite!

So many made teachers and students laugh like crazy in the hallway:)
In the end, I had the kids write a bio about their Humanimal. They could create a name and write about their age, hobbies, career etc.
This one happened to be a dentist!

"Son of Man" by Rene Magritte Parody!

"Son of Man" by Rene Magritte 1964

Eagle View artists created a parody of Magritte's "Son of Man"!
Some used famous characters and other used the same mysterious figure in the his original painting.
I love how their favorites and life interests show through in their choices!

"Son of Olaf" :)

Wow, someone chose me!

Fabulous Fourth graders~ Snow Crystals!

Fourth Graders learned quite a bit about snow crystals and were amazed by the incredible photographs taken by this guy back in the early 1900's.
"Snowflake" Bentley, aka Wilson Bentley photographing snowflakes in 1925!

Then we created our own using oil pastel, markers and layers of cool colored paper!

Beautiful!

Love the intricate borders they created too!

Fabulous Fourth Graders~ Nutcrackers!

Prior to break, fourth graders learned the story of "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky! Nutcracker drawings were practiced on our white boards and then transferred onto paper where they were then painted with watercolor. Unfortunately they were sent home for the holidays before I could get pictures of all of them, but they were beautiful!

Fabulous Fourth Graders~ Portraits & Perspective

Fourth graders practiced perspective by drawing their bedrooms!

I love the details they included.

When rooms were complete they included a small self portrait in color for contrast.

Fantastic!

I'm finished Mrs. Cline!

These fabulous stained glass windows were created by fourth grade students who had a bit of extra time on their hands. They can be made with any group of students K-5.
Whenever they were finished early with their art they had the opportunity to work on "the window". It started with an 18x24 piece of white drawing paper that was crumbled entirely into a ball!
This made hundreds of tiny wrinkle lines that they traced with a black marker to make the "lead" in a stained glass window. After all wrinkles were found and traced the fun began and they were allowed to use any color marker to fill in the shapes that the traced wrinkles made.
After about four months of working on them here and there they were complete and made a lovely decoration for my art room door.
So fun!
