Thrilling Third Graders~ Hamburgers!

YUM!
Third graders really wowed me with their collage interpretations of colossal hamburgers!

I love the attention to detail and the layering effects they managed to do with paper scraps.

The veggie burger!

Thrilling Third Graders~ Georgia O'Keefe's Flowers!

Third graders wowed me with their flowers inspired by Georgia O'Keefe!
Flowers were drawn first with glue and then lines were traced with black marker when dry

Then a combination of oil pastels and watercolor were used to fill in, spectacular!

Thrilling Third Graders~ Jungle Snakes!

Third Grade loves snakes! We spent quite a bit of time studying their colors and patterns but more importantly learning some drawing techniques to make them appear alive in the jungle trees!

They caught on real quick and erasers were literally worn down to make parts of the snake hide.

I love how unique they all are and it was actually a students idea to display them end to end to make one giant snake filled tree!

This was also our first project using liquid watercolor and I have to say that due to the bright color I am never going back to pan watercolors!

Outlines and patterns were done with oil pastels.
 Peekaboo!

The real deal. We were fascinated by these close-ups!

Thrilling Third Graders~ Beaded Dolls

Third grade had loads of fun creating these adorable beaded dolls!
Their uniqueness came from the tough selection process of materials!

They loved sorting through the different sizes, colors and shapes of beads and the different colors of wire and pipe cleaners.
Some even drew a face on each side so the expression was interchangeable. And the best part... they were poseable :)

Thrilling Third Graders~ Zentangle Mural!

Third Graders tried their hand at Zentangle and did a fabulous job!
Each student was given a 4x4 square and were asked to draw as much pattern and design as they could think of!
As small as the paper was it took most of them up to three class periods to finish, which was great because that meant they were taking their time!
Putting the entire third grade together was an adventure. We were amazed at how some squares seemed to randomly fit perfectly together even though they were drawn by people in two different classes!
Definitely a project we'll try again next year, maybe in color!
