Spectacular Second Graders~ Arachne and her Web!

 Did you ever wonder how the spider got it's name (Arachnid)? 

Second graders learned about the ancient Greek myth of Athena and Arachne.

If you have a second grader, ask them the story, it's quite bazaar and they love to tell it!

 We spent time practicing drawing spider webs which was easier than they thought.

 White oil pastel was used on their final drawing and then we painted them with water color.
But wait, there's more! Before our paintings dried we sprinkled salt all over them.

 

The art room floor was like walking on a sandy beach for a week, but it was totally worth it for them to see the effect of the salt on the wet paper. Many thought it looked like frost on a car window.
