Second Graders met were introduced to Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers series
Vincent Van Gogh 1889
They were fascinated by Mr. Van Gogh's story and even more with a simple flower he spent so much time studying.
Backgrounds were painted first and time was taken to practice drawing different vase shapes.
After vases were painted they planned how many flowers they wanted to paint and started with the centers and then the petals.
Seeds and stems were painted last and when the flowers are completely dry they used a white oil pastel on the petals for highlights.
