Fiesty Fifth Graders~ 2013 Mask Project!

It's that time of year! Fifth Graders have made me proud yet again with their fabulous ideas for their annual mask project!
JULIETT- Day of the Dead Mask
First we start with cutting many lengths of plaster wrap...
and then we add the strips to the plastic face mold. All students begin with the face mold, but it amazes me how many of the final products are not human faces!

SOPHIA & BECCA
We have lots of cardboard and hot glue guns on hand to add any features desired.
LAURA
KENDRA
Of course we paint first.. (students are required to create a drawn design beforehand with colors labeled so we know exactly where we're headed!)
KYLIE
A little bit of Greenbay Packer pride, I think.
TYLER & EMMALYN

KENNEDY & SAM
Many are modeled after characters from movies, books or TV shows. Below we have Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games!
GRACE
Table 5 decided to do a group thing and made the Ninja Turtles
And this one? Well we're not quite sure what this was supposed to be and either did the student who made it....but it is unique and I love it!
MARK
A Creeper from Minecraft
BLAKE
ALEX & PARKER
MADI
SAM & ALEX
Some students brought in materials from home, such as the leather strips for this awesome indian chief!
Mini Me from Austin Powers and Smegel from Lord of the Rings
RACHEL & EMMETT
DAYTON & GABBIE

Spectacular Second Graders~ Spring Sheep!

Spring finally arrived around these parts and we decided it was time for some blue sky and green grass!

Second Graders used painters tape to mask off their fence and made fabulous watercolor skies. They used acrylic green and yellow paint dabbed on with fingers to make a beautiful grassy field and then tempera and brushes to make wildflowers!
I love how the sheep turned out too, we had baby sheep and even some who decided to color them completely black for black sheep!

Feisty Fifth Graders~ Graphic Names

How I love this project! Every year, the fifth graders design their name. They look forward to this one every year!
There are only two rules.. each letter must be a shape and they must choose some type of theme.
I love the detail that some include.

I'm always surprised as to what they turn their letters into. The "E" in Alex is made of three rainbow Narwhals!

And this one below with a bathtub theme!

More detail!

I can't wait to see what my fifth graders come up with next year!
